Pepco work on Maryland Avenue NE from October 5 though November 10

To provide greater reliability for the neighborhood in the future, Pepco will be excavating the roadway on Maryland Ave NE (10’ from curb) starting at a manhole at the southeast corner of 11 St & Maryland Ave NE and ending at a manhole on the south corner of F St & Maryland Ave NE.

DDOT recently completed asphalt placement on Maryland Ave between 11th St to 12th St. However Pepco has identified the need to upgrade aging infrastructure to ensure and maintain reliable, safe, sustainable, and affordable service to their customers.

The PILC Cable Replacement Project (Paper Insulated Lead Cable Replacement) is a 10-year project aimed to replace all PILC underground power distribution cable in the District of Columbia. This project will allow Pepco to increase the reliability and safety of Pepco’s underground power distribution system by replacing aging primary cables with newer higher capacity and more reliable power conductors.

Work will begin October 5th, and we anticipate completion November 10th. Pepco crews are scheduled to work Monday through Friday during the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. When this work is completed, crews will resurface the road to its original condition, as required by the District Department of Transportation (“DDOT”).

Safety is always our top priority. We are committed to minimizing impacts to residents and the community. While installation of the equipment will require lane closures and parking restrictions, we will proactively coordinate with DDOT to create traffic control plans to ensure work is done safely and to minimize disruption to the surrounding communities. Appropriate signage will be used to direct traffic when needed.
