Washington, DC - As a part of the Maryland Avenue NE Streetscape Project, the District Department of Transportation will continue the closure of travel lanes on the Maryland Avenue NE between 14th St and 8th Street NE. These lanes will be closed from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday, weather and construction conditions permitting.
The lane closures are needed to repair the damaged pavement and place surface asphalt and permanent pavement markings.
Traffic control signs will be in place to guide travelers in the corridor through the new traffic pattern. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling by the work zone.
The Maryland Avenue NE project will improve safety and access for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists on the corridor between 2nd Street and 14th Street NE. The project includes new lighting, traffic signals, high visibility crosswalks, traffic calming, shorter crossing distances for pedestrians and new bike lanes. DDOT anticipates the project will be completed by December 2021.
